Description:

China, Qianlong seal mark and period

From an important German private collection, bought Nagel , 6.6.2005, lot 41
Turquoise-glazed vessels with Qianlong reign marks are extremely rare. Compare an unmarked turquoise-glazed meiping included in the Special exhibition of K'ang-Hsi, Yung-cheng and Ch'ien-lung Porcelain Ware from the Ch'ing Dynasty in the National Palace Museum , Taipei, 1986, no. 25; and a flowerpot and tray, both with Yongzheng marks and with very similar 'teardrops' to the glaze, ibid , no. 53. The present piece appears to be related to the turquoise-glazed storage vessels inscribed neifu gong yong ( 'for use in the Inner Palace'), dating from the early Ming Dynasty, a famous example of which was exhibited in Imperial Taste. Chinese Ceramics from the Percival David Foundation , Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1989, cat.no. 36, and illustrated on the catalogue cover. See also a turquoise-glazed meiping vase, Qianlong seal mark and of the period, which was sold at Bonhams London, 8 November 2018, lot 116 and Christie's Hong Kong, The Imperial Sale , 3.6.2015, lot 3247 for a peacock-blue glazed moonflask.
